The 10th International Conference on Systems Biology continues an annual series of conferences initiated by Hiroaki Kitano in Tokyo in 2000. The most recent meetings were held in Yokohama 2006, in Long Beach 2007, and in Göteborg 2008.

Stanford University is situated in the San Francisco Bay Area – birthplace of both recombinant DNA and the personal computer, and home to major academic and industrial efforts in vital aspects of systems biology, notably biotechnology, informatics and computing.
